Festivities & attractions provide year-long entertainment

Duncanville is home to a host of entertainment and cultural entities that will keep the family busy all year round.

The city provides a number of events and activities throughout the year.

The Fourth of July Stars, Stripes and Sports event, which combines the thrill of extreme sports with the festivities of Independence Day, attracts young and old alike. The hours of turkey legs, face painting and crafts culminate in the breathtaking fireworks show.

Of course, every Christmas in Duncanville is kicked off by the Christmas parade and tree lighting ceremony.

The Duncanville Community Theatre provides great performances all year - from comedies to dramas.

The theatre also produces Shakespeare Under the Stars every summer at Poe-Hobden Amphitheater in Armstrong Park.

The Dr Pepper StarCenter ice complex is 95,000 square feet of family fun and is the only ice rink in southwest Dallas County.

The facility offers two regulation ice rinks for beginning skaters to advanced hockey leagues.

For those who don't want to brave the ice, Red Bird Skateland is the ideal place for birthday parties to roller hockey.

Visitors can hit a strike at Red Bird Bowling Lanes, which recently expanded to include more lanes for more bowling fun, leagues and birthday parties.

It also provides a nursery, private dining with libations and leagues for all ages.

Putt-Putt Golf & Games and the Soccer Plaza provide miniature golf and soccer for the whole family.

The International Museum of Cultures isn't just a clever name. The facility features exhibits portraying indigenous contemporary people living in remote areas of the world.

Duncanville is host to a number of active civic groups that throw a number of events throughout the year for citizens to attend and have a good time.

In February, the Lions Club holds its annual Las Vegas Night featuring entertainment, door prizes, auctions, food, faux gambling and a chance to hold fellowship with friends.

Also in February, the Duncanville ISD Education Foundation schedules its Champions Ball. The event ranges from San Antonio fiesta to Red, White and Blue themes with a wide variety of entertainment, food, dancing - all of this to raise money for teaching grants for Duncanville ISD.

The Lions Club also holds a pancake breakfast, but the Rotary Club is quick to get into the mix with its annual fish fry.

At the Duncanville Chamber Auction, attendees can bid on items from trips, wine, sport event tickets and novelty items.

Every spring, the ESA Cancer Awareness 5K run and walk is held. Not only does it raise money for cancer research and awareness, but it provides a serene moment to socialize with friends and family, get in a good exercise and take advantage of Duncanville's many parks.

Small, privately owned galleries, bookstores and dance studios are scattered throughout town to provide residents with their own unique style of art.

The area's Cedar Valley College, University of North Texas - Dallas Campus, Northwood University and Mountain View College each offer a variety of entertainment as well including theater, music and art exhibits.
